Getting here

How to get to Robertson from Cape Town

Bella Casa is at 40 Truter Street, Robertson, about 160 km east of Cape Town. The drive takes a little under two hours.

40 Truter Street Robertson, Western Cape, 6705 South Africa
Bella Casa on Truter Street. De Bakkerij is next door, and the shops and cafés are a walk away.
  1. Leave Cape Town on the N1 heading east and stay on it through the Huguenot Tunnel, the toll tunnel under the Du Toitskloof mountains. Worcester is roughly 110 km out.
  2. At Worcester, take the R60 signposted for Robertson and Swellendam.
  3. Follow the R60 down the Breede River Valley for another 45 km or so and it runs straight into Robertson. Turn off for Truter Street; the house is number 40, next door to De Bakkerij. Route 62 carries on east from here, through Ashton to Montagu.

Flying in

Cape Town International is the nearest airport and the drive is much the same — join the N1 and follow the route above. Hire a car while you are there: the cellars in the valley are spread out and there is no practical public transport between them.

Parking and arrival

There is free parking at the house. Check in any time after 3pm using the lockbox, so there is no arrival window to hit at the end of a long drive.

Robertson and the neighbouring Klaasvoogds valley are dense with cellars, olive farms and places to eat. These are the ones worth building a day around — most are a short drive from the front door.

Beyond the cellars

Robertson is the largest town in the Langeberg and the western gateway to Route 62. The local tourism bureau calls this the valley of wine, horses and roses, which covers most of it: the Breede River runs the length of the valley and the mountains close it in on both sides.

Past the tasting rooms there are cellar tours and multi-day guided wine walks, river cruises and boat trips on the Breede, horse trails, golf, hiking and birding — and skydiving, for anyone so inclined. What is on changes through the year, with markets, shows and festivals moving around the calendar, so it is worth a look before you fix your dates.

There is more of this than fits here — the farms, the river, what is walkable and what is on — so it has its own page: things to do near Robertson.

The Robertson Tourism Bureau keeps the full list and the events calendar. Their office is in town on the corner of Reitz and Voortrekker Streets, about a kilometre from the front door, open on weekdays.
